Experienced Bartender — The Southern
Location: Kuna, Idaho
Position: Part-Time Bartender
Schedule: Evenings & Weekends
About The Southern
The Southern is a locally owned neighborhood craft cocktail bar in the heart of Kuna. We’ve built our space around great drinks, live music, familiar faces, and the kind of atmosphere where our regulars quickly become family.
We’re a small team, which means every person behind our bar matters. We’re currently looking to add 1–2 experienced bartenders who can confidently step behind the bar, provide excellent service, and become part of what makes The Southern special.
This is not an entry-level bartending position. We are specifically looking for candidates with previous bartending experience and a strong working knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine.
What We're Looking For
The right bartender for The Southern is someone who is personable, dependable, quick on their feet, and genuinely enjoys taking care of people.
You should be comfortable walking into a busy bar, prioritizing multiple guests and tickets, making cocktails accurately and efficiently, handling cash and POS transactions, and maintaining your bar without needing constant direction.
We want someone who understands that being a great bartender isn't just about making drinks—it's about creating an experience that makes people want to come back.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Have previous professional bartending experience
- Have a solid working knowledge of classic cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine
- Can confidently handle a busy bar and multiple guests at once
- Are friendly and conversational without sacrificing speed or service
- Can build relationships with regulars while making new guests feel equally welcome
- Are dependable and understand the importance of showing up on time and ready to work
- Communicate well with other bartenders and team members
- Stay organized and clean as you work
- Are comfortable handling cash and using a POS system
- Understand responsible alcohol service and proper ID verification
- Can maintain consistency with recipes, pours, and presentation
- Are willing to stock, clean, prep, and help with the less-glamorous parts of running a great bar
- Can work independently when necessary while still being a strong team player
- Are available for evening and weekend shifts
What You'll Be Doing
As a bartender at The Southern, you'll be responsible for more than simply making drinks.
Your shifts may include:
- Preparing and serving cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits
- Providing fast, friendly, knowledgeable service
- Making recommendations based on guest preferences
- Following The Southern's recipes, pour standards, and service expectations
- Using proper measuring techniques and maintaining consistent pours
- Checking identification and following Idaho alcohol-service requirements
- Opening and closing the bar
- Preparing garnishes, mixers, and other bar necessities
- Stocking and restocking throughout your shift
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and guest-ready bar
- Processing cash and credit card transactions through our POS system
- Communicating with other bartenders during high-volume service
- Supporting live music nights, special events, and other busy evenings
- Completing assigned cleaning and side work
- Helping protect the welcoming, fun atmosphere our regulars know and love
Experience
Professional bartending experience is required.
We're looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of bartending and is ready to learn our bar, rather than someone who needs to learn how to bartend.
Restaurant, cocktail bar, neighborhood bar, brewery, event bartending, or other high-volume bartending experience may all be considered.
Strong cocktail and liquor knowledge is highly preferred.
What Matters to Us
The Southern is a small business and a close-knit environment. Our bartenders are a huge part of our guests' experience and our reputation in the community.
We value:
Reliability. Your team needs to know you're going to show up.
Hospitality. We want guests to feel noticed, welcomed, and taken care of.
Teamwork. No one is "too good" to stock ice, wipe down a table, take out trash, or help another bartender.
Consistency. A drink should be made correctly whether it's someone's first visit or their hundredth.
Accountability. Mistakes happen. We expect our team to communicate, own them, and help solve them.
Personality. We're a neighborhood bar. We want bartenders who genuinely enjoy people, can have fun with our guests, and contribute to the atmosphere without losing professionalism.
Schedule
This is a part-time position primarily consisting of evening and weekend shifts.
Friday and Saturday availability is required.
Because we're a small team, dependable and consistent availability is important.
Compensation
Hourly wage + tips
Specific compensation will be discussed based on experience and availability.
