American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Med-Surg flex unit position requiring Epic proficiency and the ability to manage both step-down and floor patient ratios.

Acute care setting on a 29-bed Stepdown/Med-Surg flex unit (10E Stepdown)
-
Flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients based on census and hospital needs
-
Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses
-
Step-down nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1; floor ratio of 6:1; Clinical Associates (CAs) support at a goal ratio of 1:10

RNs will have orders to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN
-
Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen on both floor and step-down; ventilators managed in step-down with ICU transfer for settings adjustments

Remote telemetry surveillance center and central unit monitoring available; RNs are not required to read their own strips

Philips telemetry monitoring equipment used

EMR: Epic (experience required)

12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM

Every other weekend required; agency RN positions are posted as weekend positions

No call or on-call requirement

Travelers are first to float to other floor or step-down units
-
Active WV or Compact RN license required
-
BLS certification (American Heart Association)
-
Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
-
Epic EMR experience required
-
Ability to manage a 6-patient med-surg assignment or a 3-patient step-down assignment

Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference (must be from most recent permanent facility if worked within the last 12 months) and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)

Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration

Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7; the goal is to staff a free charge RN, though charge may take an assignment during the unit's initial opening period

Scrub color requirement: any combination of royal blue and white
-
Approximately half of all recognized WVUH holidays are expected to be worked
-
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
-
Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
-
Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
