Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Ambulatory Care Registered Nurse to join Stony Brook University Student Health Clinic in Long Island, NY. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise in outpatient settings, with a focus on delivering comprehensive patient assessments, managing acute and chronic conditions, and providing exceptional patient education. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where critical thinking, technical proficiency, and empathetic communication are essential for success.
Responsibilities
- Administer a full range of vaccines (MMR, meningitis, flu, HPV, Tdap, etc.).
- Track and maintain immunization records to ensure compliance with state and university requirements.
- Counsel students on vaccine benefits, side effects, and contraindications. Clinical Procedures and Testing
- Perform point of care testing (strep, flu, mono, urinalysis, pregnancy tests).
- Draw blood for lab work (phlebotomy) and collect specimens for STI screening.
- Perform hormone therapy injections and other prescribed treatments. Triage and Direct Patient Care
- Perform comprehensive nursing triage (in person and telephone) for acute and chronic conditions.
- Conduct full nursing assessments, develop care plans, and provide care for minor illnesses and injuries independently.
- Respond promptly to urgent or emergent needs, assess the situation, and escalate appropriately (“manage up”) to the provider.
- Provide care for minor injuries and acute illnesses (wound care, splinting, nebulizer treatments, vital signs, ECGs)
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current registration in the state of NY
- Proven experience working in ambulatory or outpatient care settings; experience in primary care or specialty clinics preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience as an Ambulatory Care registered nurse
- 1 year experience in Occupational Health preferred
- BLS certification required

- 13-Week Contract with possibility of extension.
- Full time, DAYS SHIFT: M - F 8:30A - 5P
- Start/End: 8/31-11/28
