Director of Hospice (RN)
A Program With Roots -- and a Vision for What Comes Next
This isn't a startup hospice scrambling to build infrastructure. This is a well-established home health and hospice organization that has been serving patients and families across the Greater Houston and Southeast Texas region for five years -- with the systems, the staff, and the census to prove it. The foundation is solid. What they're looking for now is the right leader to build on it.
The hospice program currently serves roughly 70 patients across a broad geographic footprint. An experienced interdisciplinary team is already in place, with additional clinical staff coming on in the coming weeks. You're not walking into chaos. You're walking into an organization that has done the hard work of establishing itself and is ready to grow -- with the right person at the helm.
What Makes This Role Different
The leadership philosophy here is worth calling out, because it's not universal in hospice. You would report directly to an Administrator who came up through social work -- someone who understands the human dimension of this work at a deep level and has built a culture to match. They're not looking for someone to enforce metrics from a distance. They want a Director who teaches, who invests in people, and who understands that a strong hospice team is built through mentorship and trust, not pressure and turnover.
If you've led hospice teams before and felt like the culture around you didn't match the mission you signed up for, this is a different environment. The expectation here is that clinical education, team development, and interdisciplinary collaboration are core to the Director's role -- not side tasks when there's time.
The Opportunity for Long-Term Growth
This organization is looking for a leader who wants to put down roots. The program has a strong base and real runway -- both geographically and in terms of census growth. For a Director who is motivated by building something, developing a team over time, and becoming a cornerstone of a growing organization, this is the kind of role where you can make a long-term mark. The goal is to find someone who sees longevity as a feature, not a limitation.

Who Thrives in This Role
The Directors who do best here are the ones who see hospice as a calling. They know the regulations cold, but they lead with the mission. They're comfortable stepping into difficult conversations -- with families, with staff, with referral sources -- because they've been doing this long enough to know that presence and communication are what separate good hospice programs from great ones. And they want to stay somewhere long enough to see the difference they've made.
