Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Supervisor for our Cardiovascular (CV) Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU) during night shifts. This leadership role requires a professional with extensive critical care experience, a strong understanding of neuro and cardiovascular patient needs, and proven supervisory capabilities. The RN Unit Supervisor will oversee daily clinical operations, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, and foster a collaborative environment focused on delivering exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, EMR systems, and advanced nursing practices to support our specialized ICU team.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical supervision and leadership to nursing staff within the CV Neuro ICU, ensuring adherence to hospital policies, nursing standards, and safety protocols.
- Coordinate patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physiological evaluations to facilitate accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans.
- Oversee medication administration, IV infusion procedures, catheter care, and ventilator management in accordance with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Ensure proper documentation of medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner, maintaining compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary communication among physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Supervise the management of complex cases involving acute pain management, neurocritical care interventions like spinal taps or cardiac catheterization, and trauma cases including Level I Trauma Center protocols.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives by monitoring clinical performance metrics such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding accuracy, patient discharge planning, and utilization review processes.
- Support staff development through training on ICU procedures, infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and emergency response protocols including basic life support (BLS).
Experience
- Proven critical care experience within an ICU setting specializing in neuro or cardiovascular patients; Level I or Level II trauma center experience is highly desirable.
- Supervisory or nurse management experience demonstrating team leadership skills in fast-paced hospital environments.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for medical documentation and patient record management.
- Knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems for accurate diagnostic classification and billing processes.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics (PICU), neonatal ventilator management, and patients with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Strong understanding of hospital medicine regulations including HIPAA compliance, long-term care regulations, and state healthcare laws.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments involving physiology knowledge, laboratory experience, specimen collection/processing, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
