Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmission across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Load and unload freight using proper manual handling techniques, including hazardous materials (Hazmat) and dangerous goods when applicable
- Transport refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, or tankers while maintaining the integrity of temperature-sensitive or hazardous cargo
- Use GPS navigation systems to follow optimized delivery routes, adjusting as needed for traffic or road conditions
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to ensure safety and compliance with hazardous materials regulations
- Load & unload freight efficiently at various delivery points, ensuring proper truck loading and unloading procedures are followed
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery documentation, and cargo handling records in accordance with FMCSA regulations
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid Class A CDL license
- Strong knowledge of trucking regulations including FMCSA, DOT, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols
- Skilled in driving manual transmission trucks and operating refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, or tankers
- Excellent route planning skills utilizing GPS navigation for efficient deliveries across OTR routes
- Ability to handle logistics cargo handling tasks such as load & unload operations safely and effectively
- Experience with transportation or freight delivery driving preferred but not required
- Knowledge of truck loading/unloading techniques for various types of cargo including hazardous goods and dangerous materials
