Position Summary
The Paxtang Borough is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Public Works Laborer. Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled level work in the maintenance of trees and public landscapes; repair and maintenance of streets, sewers, and storm sewers; maintenance of public property; and, minor carpentry and construction tasks. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position that works under the direction of the Assistant Borough Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general labor duties such as lifting, digging, shoveling, and equipment handling
- Assist with maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks, storm drains, and public facilities
- Operate light to moderate-duty equipment (e.g., dump trucks, mowers, snowplows, hand tools)
- Assist with snow and ice removal (including on-call or emergency response during storms)
- Maintain parks and public grounds, including mowing, trimming, and landscaping
- Support sewer system maintenance activities
- Respond to emergency situations as needed outside regular work hours
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
- Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and maintenance practices
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work as part of a team
- Clearances required
