Duties
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of procedures including restorations, extractions, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments according to dental sterilization procedures and infection prevention management protocols
- Take and develop dental x-rays while ensuring proper use of dental imaging equipment and adherence to HIPAA regulations for medical documentation and medical records confidentiality
- Manage patient intake by recording vital signs, medical history, and updating electronic health records using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic
- Support dental reception activities by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and assisting with medical coding for billing purposes
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies while ensuring aseptic technique is followed consistently to prevent healthcare infection transmission
- Support the dental team with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency during procedures
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures and terminology
- Hands-on experience with dental instrument processing, sterilization procedures, and infection control practices
- Familiarity with dental x-ray techniques and pediatric dentistry is highly desirable
- Proficiency in using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation
- Strong understanding of anatomy knowledge relevant to dental assisting roles along with medical terminology comprehension
- Demonstrated ability to follow clinical confidentiality policies while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety
- Certification or training in healthcare infection prevention and control is preferred
