Overview:
Amentum is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team supporting our federal customer in Washington, DC. Our mission provides enterprise cloud services to one of our premier law enforcement agencies. The team is responsible for engineering, operations, and security of AWS accounts and Azure subscriptions and cloud migrations for enterprise and mission applications. We are fully cloud-based and focus on the automation of all tasks utilizing a fully implemented CI/CD pipeline. We utilize agile methodologies to plan projects and tasks and break them down into 2-week sprints
Successful candidate will provide hands‑on support for daily network operations, including evaluating system utilization, monitoring performance, and serving as a primary responder for operational issues and system anomalies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems
- Ensure all systems remain current with approved patches, aligned with security requirements, and optimized for mission success
- Oversee additions and changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, and operating systems, and attached devices
- Participate in planning design, technical review and implementation for new network infrastructure hardware and network operating systems for voice and data communication networks
- Installation, configuration and testing of new network hardware and software
- Support certification and accreditation activities, develop SOPs and quick‑reference guides, and advise leadership on technology investments related to processing, storage, data access, and application development
- Help evaluate the feasibility of future projects, contributing technical insight that shapes long‑term planning and modernization
- Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP
Required:
- TS with SCI eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related plus 8 years of experience in systems administration; work experience considered in lieu of degree
- Proficiency with virtualization technologies and network administration; designing, building and maintaining cloud infrastructure (like AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong Linux skills
- Hardware and network designs for large-scale enterprise applications including cloud service providers
- Network design and implementation, datacenter experience, network/systems administration, domain administration, virtualization platforms, SaaS, PaaS
- Experience maintaining security best practices
- Experience establishing and maintaining monitoring and alerting systems for cloud and on-premises resources
- Hands-on experience optimizing on-premises and cloud infrastructure for cost efficiency and performance
- Knowledge of scripting and programming for automation
- Prior experience monitoring large enterprise production applications and troubleshooting production applications
- Experience with performance tuning and fault finding
- Required Certifications: AWS Certifications (or willingness to obtain)

- Experience with Confluence for reporting, planning, documenting user processes, storing internal system configurations, publishing roadmaps for executive management and outside stakeholders
Salary: $140k - $150k
