Job Description and Duties
The CalSTRS Audit Services Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Staff Management Auditor on the Data Solutions & Quality Assurance team.
CalSTRS delegated authority to Audit Services to perform audits in order to evaluate a school employer’s compliance with the Teacher’s Retirement Law. The mission of Audit Services is to provide independent, objective assurance through audit and consulting services designed to add value and improve CalSTRS operations. Audit Services assists CalSTRS in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal control and governance processes. Audit Services is an integral part of the accomplishment of goals and objectives established for CalSTRS operations and programs. Audit Services consists of Employer and Internal Audits, Data Solutions, and Operations.
Under the general direction of the Data Solutions & Quality Assurance (DS&QA) Senior Management Auditor Supervisor, the Staff Management Auditor (SMA), is responsible for directing and supervising a team of professional-level staff who perform data solutions reviews/activities in accordance with applicable State policies and procedures, Audit Services policies and procedures, and the Global Internal Audit Standards (Standards). The SMA is also responsible for the implementation of Audit Services Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) and ensuring Audit Services compliance with Audit Services policies and QAIP program.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

Knowledge and experience in risk-based auditing, quality assurance, data analytics, and Global Internal Audit Standards
- Proficient with various software programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and audit software (TeamMate+)

Excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and time management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with internal/external stakeholders

Training, supervision, and management experience

Experience creating dashboards and/or reporting on metrics to management

Strong project management experience or proven ability to lead, monitor and measure the completion of multiple projects

Experience identifying and providing recommendations, especially on procedures or process improvements
Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the reduced amounts.

Working Conditions
CalSTRS offers a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions based on business needs.
All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment with CalSTRS.
