The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing/compounding medications given in our infusion center under the supervision of the clinic physician. This position is a critical part of providing patients with safe, efficient therapies during their cancer treatment journey. This role will report to the Practice Administrator while working closely as a member of Medical Professionals of Miami provider care team.
Responsibilities
- Practices as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal and state and Board of Pharmacy regulations and standards
- Follows proper procedures to accurately prepare and dispense medications; predominately hazardous drugs used to treat cancer, including research protocols
- Prepares labels for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals
- Ensures timely delivery of medication orders and/or supplies to treatment teams
- Maintains accurate pharmaceutical inventories and procurement of medications including sorting, stocking, rotation of stock, and expiring medication checks
- Performs and documents quality control steps as required for safety and regulatory requirements
- Performs cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned
- Maintains and supports automated dispensing cabinets
- Communicates and escalates issues or problems in a timely manner
- Act as a positive, collaborative team player by being flexible to achieve the mission of Medical Professionals of Miami.

- Able to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations
- Proficiency of aseptic technique and the compounding of sterile products
- Proficiency and mastery of compounding non-sterile products
- Comfort level with USP-797 and USP-800 Guidelines
- Solid knowledge regarding insurance authorizations and reimbursement guidelines
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and assist in resolution
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfort using technology, including inventory and supply management systems
- Openness to stepping in and helping other teams/ functional areas when needed
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Holds an active Pharmacy Technician License in the State of Florida
- National Pharmacy Technician certification required within 12 months of hire
- Oncology experience strongly preferred
- Fluency in Spanish or Creole preferred
- US work authorization
Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of chemotherapy agents, supportive care medications, and hazardous drug handling protocols.
- Solid knowledge regarding insurance authorizations and reimbursement guidelines
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-paced oncology clinic or infusion center.
- Familiarity with EMR, pharmacy systems and inventory systems.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
