Tortolano & Company is a full-service firm with offices on the New Hampshire Seacoast and Northern Vermont. We work with small businesses, individuals and health care providers across New England and the US.
We're structured that you'll talk to clients in your first month and see a return from start to finish. We're structured enough that you won't be figuring it out alone.
Position:
- Prepare individual, partnership, S-corp, C-corp, and fiduciary returns, along with the related state filings
- Perform monthly and quarterly write-up work: bank reconciliations, journal entries, adjusting entries, and general ledger cleanup
- Handle payroll tax and sales tax filings, plus 1099 and W-2 preparation each January
- Assist with client accounting system work in QuickBooks Online and Desktop, including cleanup and conversion projects
- Draft responses to IRS and state notices for manager review
- Communicate directly with clients on open items, missing documentation, and routine questions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a degree in a related field with the accounting coursework completed
- 1–2 years of experience in public accounting, with exposure to both tax preparation and accounting/write-up work
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks and comfort in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, cleaning up a client's export)
- Ability to prepare a return that is genuinely complete before it goes to review — self-review is the skill that separates a good staff accountant from a slow one
- Clear written communication; you'll be emailing clients directly
- Willingness to work extended hours during filing season
- Familiarity with CCH Axcess/ProSystems FX is a bonus.
Benefits: Health Insurance, dental insurance, 401(k), paid time off, paid holidays, flexible schedules, casual, well-structured environment.
