Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our team in Rio Grande City. The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering high-quality patient care in diverse healthcare settings, including long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, hospitals, and home care environments. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients by providing compassionate support and essential healthcare services.
Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using proper manual handling techniques.
- Monitor and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates.
- Support patient transfer methods utilizing equipment such as Hoyer lifts and ensuring safe handling practices.
- Administer medications and perform basic medical procedures under the supervision of nursing staff while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Assist with specialized care needs including Alzheimer's care, dementia care, memory care, and behavioral health support for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Document patient information thoroughly in electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems) and medical documentation systems.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams across medical-surgical units, ICU, emergency medicine, hospice care, and other specialized areas such as pediatrics or geriatrics.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Skills
- Proven experience working with geriatric patients in long-term care or nursing home environments.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to acute care, ICU procedures, trauma centers (Level I & II), and post-acute settings.
- Experience with specialized patient populations including those requiring hospice or infectious disease care.
- Strong communication skills for caregiving roles involving patient education and caregiver communication strategies.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while adhering to safe lifting practices; experience with manual handling equipment like Hoyer lifts is preferred.
- Certification in basic life support (BLS) and CPR is required; additional certifications in phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous.
- Understanding of HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
