Position Summary
Cogar Manufacturing is seeking an experienced CNC Horizontal Boring Mill Operator to join our growing machine shop team. This position is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating a CNC horizontal boring mill to machine large components, weldments, shafts, housings, and custom OEM parts to precise specifications.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience machining large industrial components, reading blueprints, performing machine setups, selecting tooling, and maintaining tight tolerances with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC horizontal boring mills for production and custom machining projects.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD drawings, and work instructions.
- Determine machining sequences, tooling requirements, and workholding methods.
- Perform precision machining operations including boring, drilling, tapping, facing, contouring, and milling.
- Machine large weldments, fabricated structures, castings, and industrial components.
- Verify dimensions using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and quality standards throughout production.
- Make machine offsets and adjustments as required to maintain tolerances.
- Inspect finished parts and complete quality documentation as required.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and shop personnel to ensure project requirements are met.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience.
- Minimum 3 years operating and setting up CNC horizontal boring mills or large CNC machining centers.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Experience machining large industrial components.
- Ability to independently perform machine setups and troubleshoot machining issues.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
- Strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling selection, and machining practices.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
Preferred
- Experience with G&L, Toshiba, Lucas, Kuraki, or similar horizontal boring mills.
- Experience machining large weldments, castings, and heavy equipment components.
- CAD/CAM experience.
- Forklift and crane operation experience.
- Manufacturing experience within mining, heavy equipment, industrial, or OEM environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work around large machinery and heavy components.
- Ability to safely operate cranes and material handling equipment.
