Position Overview
As a Special Education Teacher, you will provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs while fostering an inclusive and positive classroom environment. You will collaborate with families, school staff, and related service providers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and help students achieve academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on each student's unique educational needs.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
- Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to ensure student success.
- Maintain a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom using positive behavior management techniques.
- Monitor student progress, conduct assessments, and maintain accurate educational records.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, behavioral specialists, and other support staff.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and educational goals.
- Support students' academic achievement, communication skills, social-emotional development, and independence.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations and documentation requirements.
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Special Education Teacher Certification/Licensure (required).
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of IEP development, progress monitoring, and instructional accommodations.
- Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, or other exceptional needs is preferred.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
