Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Overview
CARE247 is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities. DSPs play a vital role in promoting independence, dignity, personal choice, and community inclusion while ensuring each individual’s health, safety, and well-being.
This position provides meaningful, person-centered support in accordance with each individual’s Individual Service Plan (ISP), Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) requirements, and agency policies. Whether assisting with daily living skills, community participation, or personal care, you’ll have the opportunity to make a lasting difference in someone’s life every day.
Responsibilities
- Provide person-centered support based on each individual’s ISP and desired outcomes.
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and mobility as needed.
- Encourage independence by teaching and supporting daily living, communication, social, and life skills.
- Assist with meal planning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and household chores.
- Provide transportation to medical appointments, work, day programs, recreational activities, and community outings using agency or personal vehicle as assigned.
- Administer or assist with medications according to DODD and agency medication administration policies (if certified).
- Accurately document services provided, daily progress notes, incidents, medication administration, and other required documentation.
- Follow approved behavior support plans, safety plans, and individual rights while using positive behavior support techniques.
- Support individuals in participating in community activities, employment, volunteer opportunities, and recreational events.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized home environment.
- Monitor individuals for changes in health, behavior, or overall well-being and promptly report concerns to supervisors and nursing staff.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow agency emergency procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, DODD regulations, and agency policies.
- Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and maintain all certifications required for the position.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and reliable transportation preferred.
- Ability to pass criminal background checks as required by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DODD-required certifications and trainings, including CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration (if applicable).
- Ability to lift, transfer, push, or assist individuals safely as needed.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, patient, dependable, and committed to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, mental health diagnoses, or behavioral support needs.
- Experience working in home and community-based services (HCBS), residential settings, or healthcare.
- Experience with electronic documentation systems and medication administration.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification.

Pay: $14.00 - $20.00 per hour
