About Accuthread
Accuthread Ballscrew is a fast-growing manufacturer of precision ground ballscrews for the aerospace, military, and commercial industries. Based in Saginaw, Michigan, we build mission-critical components to the highest industry standards. As a small, fast-moving team, every person here has a direct hand in how we build, and how we grow.
The Role
This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a manufacturing engineer. You'll lead building tooling and fixtures, writing and optimizing CNC programs, new product introduction, and owning quality and compliance on the floor. You'll wear multiple hats, make decisions that matter, and see the results of your work immediately.
What You'll Do
Manufacturing & Process Engineering
- Build prototypes for testing, demos, and design validation, and perform engineering calculations for design work.
- Collaborate with engineers to develop solutions and provide technical support to production.
- Coordinate production across departments and prepare and communicate daily status reports.
- Optimize efficiency and yield while minimizing rework and scrap, and implement methods to reduce manufacturing lead time.
CNC Programming
- Create and optimize CNC programs for complex aerospace, defense, medical, semiconductor, and commercial components from customer models, drawings, and specifications.
- Develop safe, efficient, and repeatable machining processes for new and existing jobs.
- Select tooling, holders, cutting parameters, toolpath strategies, and workholding methods.
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, and dimensional issues on the floor; and modify programs based on inspection feedback, and tool performance.
- Optimize feeds, speeds, stepovers, depths of cut, tool engagement, and machining sequences to improve cycle times while maintaining part quality, process stability, and tool life.
- Review engineering drawings and apply GD&T to programming and manufacturing decisions.
- Assist machinists with program interpretation and technical troubleshooting, and mentor developing programmers and machinists as needed.
- Standardize programming practices, tooling strategies, and proven manufacturing methods.
Quality & Inspection
- Inspect incoming raw materials and purchased components for compliance with specifications.
- Perform in-process and final inspections to determine product acceptance using calipers, micrometers, manual and digital gauges, and other measuring equipment.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, material specifications, engineering plans, and GD&T requirements.
- Follow established quality systems while identifying improvement opportunities, and maintain accurate inspection and quality documentation.
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)
- Comply with all EHS laws and safe work practices, and implement company EHS programs across departments.
- Apply ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 system knowledge.
- Apply safe-system design and JSA/MOC safety processes, and support EH&S management of chemical processes and facilities.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in precision CNC machining and manufacturing engineering, ideally in aerospace, defense, medical, or other tight-tolerance industries.
- Strong command of GD&T and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Hands-on experience with precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, digital and manual gauges) and calibration practices.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 quality and environmental systems; familiarity with cGMP, DOT, and OSHA requirements a plus.
- Experience leading NPI, developing tooling and fixtures, and driving efficiency, yield, and lead-time improvements.
- A self-starter who thrives in a small-team — comfortable wearing multiple hats, taking ownership, and moving fast with limited structure.
- Supervisory or team-leadership experience, with the ability to manage performance and mentor others.
- Strong problem-solving skills and clear written and verbal communication.
