Monmouth Memorial School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Health/Physical Education Teacher. The successful candidate will provide a coordinated, developmentally appropriate PE and Health curriculum that promotes lifelong physical activity, wellness, and healthy decision-making. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about student wellbeing, skilled at engaging learners of widely varying ages and abilities, and committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and active learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education and health instruction aligned with Maine Learning Results and applicable state/national standards.
- Design lessons and units that build fundamental movement skills, physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits.
- Teach age-appropriate health education topics, including nutrition, personal hygiene, safety, substance abuse prevention, mental and emotional wellness, and human growth and development.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners.
- Establish and maintain a safe learning environment, including proper supervision, equipment use, and adherence to safety protocols during physical activity.
- Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative methods; maintain accurate records and communicate progress to students, families, and administrators.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators to support integrated learning and student wellness initiatives across the district.
- Organize and maintain PE equipment and facilities; requisition supplies and equipment as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, curriculum committees, and district wellness initiatives.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress and program expectations.
Qualifications:
- Possess (or be eligible) Maine DOE certification for Physical Education (510), and Health Education (520), or combined Health and Physical Education (512)
- Current Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) certification
- A passion for working with learners and supporting their growth
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
