About the Role
Are you a dedicated, enthusiastic educator looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young children? Sunshine Early Learning Center in Milwaukie is seeking two dynamic Lead Teachers to join our team in our Preschool and Preschool Promise classrooms (ages 3 to 5).
We are looking for self-starters who bring energy, warmth, and strong leadership to the classroom. You’ll inspire curiosity through active learning and fun play, while mentoring assistant staff and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
Key Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Registry Level: Step 8 or higher on the Oregon Registry (must meet Oregon state guidelines for a Lead Teacher).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility.
- Background Check: Must be currently registered in the Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR).
- Required Certifications & Trainings:
- Oregon Child Abuse and Neglect Certificate
- Infant, Child, and Adult CPR & First Aid Certification
- Oregon Food Handler’s Card
- Intro to Health and Safety training + all state-required continuing education hours
Primary Responsibilities Classroom Instruction & Caregiving
- Plan and execute developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily activities for children ages 3–5.
- Promote a positive learning environment rooted in nurture, fun play, active learning, and social-emotional growth.
- Handle daily routine classroom care, including serving meals and supporting potty training needs.
- Conduct daily student observations, assessments, and progress reporting.
Leadership & Communication
- Directly supervise children and ensure compliance with all safety and emergency procedures.
- Guide and mentor classroom assistants, assisting with lesson planning and curriculum implementation.
- Maintain open, professional communication with parents, co-teachers, and administration.
- Uphold student confidentiality and align with preschool values, policies, and discipline practices.
Classroom Maintenance & Center Support
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic environment (daily sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, dishes, and trash removal).
- Assist with light office duties and center operations as needed by Directors or Owners.
Physical Demands & Work Requirements
- Ability to stand and move around for at least 75% of your shift.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 40+ lbs.
- Frequent kneeling, bending, squatting, and climbing.
- Exceptional reliability, time management, and problem-solving skills in high-energy environments.

Pay: $19.25 - $27.50 per hour
