Rain Gutter Estimating | Outside Sales
Full-Time | Salaried | Field-Based | Some Evenings & Weekends
$50,000–$60,000 Base Salary + Performance-Based Commission Up to 5%
Aquatech Rain Gutters is looking for a motivated, results-driven Rain Gutter Estimator & Sales Person with hands-on knowledge of rain gutter systems and installation.
This is a field-based sales and estimating position for someone who understands how gutter systems are installed, what makes a job straightforward or challenging, and how those conditions translate into labor, materials, and price—and who can pair that technical knowledge with strong customer communication and sales skills.
You'll spend your day meeting with homeowners at their properties, evaluating their rain gutter and water-diversion needs, taking measurements, developing accurate scopes, presenting solutions and pricing, and closing business.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced rain gutter installer, lead installer, gutter estimator, or gutter sales professional who understands the trade and is ready to apply that experience in a customer-facing, performance-driven role.
Our goal is simple: provide homeowners with knowledgeable recommendations, accurate pricing, and the confidence to make a decision during their appointment.
What You'll Do:
You'll visit approximately 6 residential properties per day, evaluating projects and helping homeowners determine the right rain gutter solution for their property.
You'll be responsible to:
- Meet with homeowners to evaluate their rain gutter and water-diversion needs and recommend the appropriate solution for their property, including some evening and weekend appointments depending on customer availability.
- Walk, measure, and assess each property, including existing gutter systems, rooflines, valleys and water flow, fascia and attachment conditions, elevations, access, and downspout locations.
- Determine the appropriate gutter and downspout layout, sizing, profile, materials, discharge locations, gutter protection, and other system requirements.
- Accurately scope all project components, including gutter runs, downspouts, corners and miters, removal and replacement, and any specialty installation requirements.
- Recognize installation conditions that could affect labor, materials, equipment, or production time, including multi-story work, difficult access, complex rooflines, concentrated water flow, fascia issues, obstacles, and other non-standard conditions.
- Determine when a project or installation condition requires additional review from a Rain Gutter Project Manager before final pricing.
- Develop accurate scopes and pricing using company-established labor, material, production, and margin guidelines.
- Present estimates and pricing on-site whenever possible, clearly explaining the recommended system, product options, and value to the homeowner.
- When final pricing requires additional review, provide an appropriate ballpark and deliver the completed proposal by end of day.
- Identify appropriate opportunities to upgrade or expand the project based on the property's needs without overselling the customer.
- Address homeowner questions and objections, confidently ask for the sale, and guide customers through next steps.
- Conduct timely follow-up on open estimates, maintain accurate CRM documentation, and keep an organized sales pipeline.
- Maintain a target 30%+ close rate on qualified appointments visited.
Sell It Right, Not Just Sell More
We're looking for a strong salesperson, but revenue alone isn't the goal.
The Rain Gutter Estimator is accountable for selling work that has been properly scoped, appropriately priced, and positioned to be profitable once it reaches installation.
You'll be expected to:
- Accurately estimate anticipated labor, materials, equipment, access requirements, and project complexity.
- Recognize conditions that could increase installation time or cost.
- Understand the difference between a project that should take a crew a few hours, a full production day, or multiple days.
- Maintain pricing discipline and established company margin expectations.
- Negotiate and address pricing concerns within company guidelines, producing satisfied customers, while protecting project profitability.
- Avoid overpromising scope, scheduling, installation methods, or customer accommodations.
- Review estimated-versus-actual project performance and use job-costing feedback to continually improve estimating accuracy.
- Work with our Rain Gutter Project Managers when a project requires additional technical review or falls outside standard estimating parameters.
- Clearly document what was sold so our installation crews and production team know exactly what they're expected to deliver.
A great sale isn't simply a signed contract. It's a properly designed and scoped gutter project that performs as promised, can be efficiently installed by our crews, and remains profitable for the company.
Own Your Sales Pipeline:
You'll be responsible for managing each opportunity throughout the estimating stage—from the initial property visit through follow-up and the customer's final decision.
That includes maintaining accurate and timely documentation of:
- Customer conversations and follow-up
- Lead and opportunity status
- Measurements and gutter layout
- Project scope and pricing
- Property and installation photos
- Relevant roof, fascia, drainage, and access conditions
- Customer priorities and concerns
- Products and options presented
- Commitments made during the sales process
Experience with construction estimating, CRM, field documentation, and measurement platforms is strongly preferred, including: JobNimbus, CompanyCam, SumoQuote, ArcSite, EagleView Reports, Google Workspace/Gmail.
Experience with comparable construction technology is also valuable. You should be comfortable using technology consistently to manage estimates, customer communication, documentation, and follow-up.
Who We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone with strong rain gutter knowledge, great customer communication skills, and the ability to turn technical expertise into sales.
Strong candidates will have:
- Professional experience in rain gutter installation, estimating, or sales, with hands-on installation experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of residential gutter systems, including aluminum and copper, gutter profiles, downspouts, gutter protection, fascia conditions, water diversion, and common installation methods.
- The ability to assess a property and recognize factors that impact installation difficulty, labor, materials, and job cost.
- Strong customer-facing sales skills, including presenting solutions and pricing, answering questions, overcoming objections, and asking for the sale.
- Strong organization and time management with the ability to manage a high-volume field schedule, including evening and weekend appointments as needed.
- Comfort with CRM, estimating, and field technology. Experience with JobNimbus, CompanyCam, SumoQuote, ArcSite, EagleView, or similar platforms is a plus.
- A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, with the ability to safely navigate residential properties and typical installation conditions.
Bonus: Experience with residential gutter estimating, multi-story or complex installations, job costing, or commission-based sales.
How You'll Be Measured:
Success in this position is about sales performance + estimating accuracy + profitability + customer experience.
Key performance expectations include:
- Approximately 6 residential estimating appointments per day / 30 per week
- 30%+ close rate on qualified appointments visited
- On-site estimate presentation whenever possible
- Appropriate ballpark pricing when final pricing requires additional review
- Formal proposals completed by end of day when they cannot be finalized on-site
- Consistent and timely customer follow-up
- Accurate scopes with minimal production issues or change orders caused by estimating errors or omissions
- Achievement of company margin and profitability expectations
- Complete CRM and project documentation
- Strong homeowner communication and professional representation of Aquatech
- Effective handoff of sold projects to scheduling and production
Compensation:
Base Salary: $50,000–$60,000 annually, depending on experience
Commission: 5% / 4% / 3% / 2% based on each job's final realized margin, estimated potential: $29k-$84k
Our compensation structure is designed to reward both sales performance and estimating accuracy.
Commission is tied to project profitability, not simply the amount sold. Projects that are accurately scoped, appropriately priced, and completed within expected labor and material requirements can earn the highest applicable commission.
When a project requires substantially more labor, material, or production resources than were accounted for in the estimate, the commission earned on that project may be reduced based on actual project performance.
For example, if a project is scoped and priced as a one-day installation but ultimately requires additional production time because installation complexity wasn't properly accounted for, that additional cost affects the profitability of the project, and therefore the commission earned.
This creates a simple incentive: sell the right solution, price it accurately, and set our installation crews up for success.
If you know the rain gutter trade and are ready to use that experience to build a successful sales career, we're excited to hear from you.
