James Beard Award-Winning chef Roy Yamaguchi’s grandfather, Rokuro Yamaguchi, was a trailblazer who immigrated to Hawaii to work in the plantations. He later became a successful entrepreneur and businessman, opening the Yamaguchi Store and several tavern-like restaurants in Kihei and Wailuku.
Roy spent his summers at the Yamaguchi Store and creates a menu inspired by the flavors he recalls from his childhood. His grandfather often prepared delicious family meals with fresh fish caught off the beach, small shellfish gathered from the rocky shoreline, pork given to the family from a hunting trip and papaya and pineapple picked from the backyard.
Here at Humble Market Kitchin, our PM Food Runner plays a crucial role in the restaurant’s operations, ensuring that food is delivered quickly and accurately from the kitchen to our guests tables. Here are some important responsibilities and skills we are looking for in a food runner:
Responsibilities:
- Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with our kitchen staff and servers to ensure smooth and efficient food delivery.
- Timing: Coordinate with the kitchen to ensure that all dishes for a particular table are ready at the same time, facilitating timely delivery.
- Presentation: Verify that each dish meets the restaurant’s standards and is correctly plated before taking it to the guest.
- Accuracy: Double-check orders against the ticket to ensure accuracy before delivering them to the correct table.
- Prioritization: Understand the urgency of different orders and prioritize delivery accordingly.
- Organization: Keep the kitchen and serving areas organized to facilitate quick and easy access to dishes.
- Customer Service: Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner, delivering dishes with a smile and addressing any immediate concerns they may have.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with other restaurant staff to ensure guests are happy.
Skills:
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills are essential for coordinating with chefs and servers.
- Organization: Must have the ability to stay organized and manage multiple orders at the same time is crucial for efficiency.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure that each dish is accurate and meets the chefs presentation standards.
