Overview
Lake Forest Animal Clinic is a small animal veterinary hospital located near Market Square in Lake Forest, IL and is owned / operated by Dr. Margaret "Peggy" Timm. Our practice philosophy is to treat our patients as if they were our own and to provide our clients with the knowledge they need to make educated decisions for their pets.
We are currently hiring for the role of veterinary assistant and/or receptionist. This position requires an individual who is well-organized, motivated, and has a passion for the love and care of animals. Ideal candidate will function as both a veterinary assistant and receptionist on rotating schedules; position to only work receptionist position available, if desired.
Responsibilities
In the first part of the job position, veterinary assistant, your primary goal will be to support the doctor and other staff members in various ways. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
- Care for the animals being hospitalized or boarded in our kennel
- Restrain animals - including those who are aggressive and/or fractious - in a way to prevent injury to both patient and staff
- Assist in surgeries - prep patients for surgery, monitor anesthetized patients under anesthesia, provide care for recovering patients until they are released
- Assist in laboratory duties - collect samples, run various tests in-house, prepare samples to be sent off to reference laboratories
- Client communication - relay doctor instructions to client, provide pre- or post surgical care instructions, instruct how to give medication, ect.
- Basic cleaning of kennel / exam rooms and laundry
In the second part of the job position, veterinary receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for our clients and their pets. This position is vital and can be very demanding, but is key to a smooth-operating clinic. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
- Ability to maintain a calm, professional, and positive demeanor
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities required
- Client communication - greet clients/pets, answer phones, schedule appointments
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Collect and process payments
- Relay information to and from doctor
- Basic computer skills required - our practice management system is Neo
Experience is preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate who shows to have a strong passion for the care and wellbeing of animals, attention to detail, self-motivation, and desire to continue learning and growing within the field.
Clinic Hours
- Mondays / Tuesdays / Thursdays / Fridays: 8:30 AM - 5 PM
- Closed for lunch Noon - 1:30 PM
- Wednesdays / Saturdays: 8:30 AM - Noon
- Sundays: Closed
- It is important to note that while we strive to keep these hours, there are days that go longer due to emergencies
Schedule / Compensation
- Typical start time is 8 AM, but varies depending on boarding patients and/or procedures to set up
- Monday - Friday: daily rotation between assistant / receptionist position - some days work as receptionist, other days work as assistant
- Saturdays (on rotation): receptionist
- Starting pay based on previous experience- raises will be given based on skills / milestones reached
