Hampton County is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair County-owned vehicles and equipment, including heavy-duty and light-duty trucks, emergency vehicles, heavy equipment, and small engines.
Key Responsibilities

Diagnose, service, and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment

Maintain fire apparatus, police vehicles, ambulances, graders, tractors, backhoes, generators, pumps, and small engines

Perform preventive maintenance (oil changes, fluids, filters, lubrication, inspections)

Repair engines, brakes, hydraulics, transmissions, electrical and emission systems

Rebuild fire apparatus pumps and related equipment

Perform welding, fabrication, plumbing, and electrical work as needed

Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records

Respond to after-hours and weekend on-call repairs

Interact with County staff, firefighters, vendors, and the public
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

Minimum 3 years of experience repairing gasoline and diesel engines (or equivalent experience)

Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills

South Carolina Driver's License is required (mechanic certifications a plus).
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform physically demanding work

Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work with hand and power tools
