Position: K-5 Special Education Teacher
The focus of the K–5 Special Education Teacher is to increase student achievement by addressing individualized academic, behavioral, and developmental needs through specialized instruction and targeted support. This position is designed to ensure students have access to grade-level curriculum while building foundational skills for long-term success. The K–5 Special Education Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, service providers, intervention staff, and school leadership to implement individualized education plans, deliver evidence-based instruction in reading and mathematics, and support student growth and independence.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide specialized instruction to K–5 students with disabilities in individual, small-group, and classroom settings- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans/Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and support inclusive practices
- Deliver evidence-based interventions in reading, mathematics, behavior, and executive functioning skills
- Collect, analyze, and use student data to guide instruction and monitor progress toward IEP goals
- Maintain accurate student records, progress reports, and required special education documentation
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, support, and educational needs
- Participate in case conferences, evaluation meetings, and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Support the development of positive behavior plans and social-emotional growth for students
- Work collaboratively with school leadership, intervention staff, and related service providers to improve student outcomes
- Assist in scheduling, program planning, trainings, problem solving and documentation
- Effectively manage instructional assistants assigned to the classroom
Qualifications:
Valid Indiana Special Education teaching license or ability to obtain Indiana Special Education license- Knowledge of special education laws, compliance requirements, and IEP development and implementation
- Experience or strong understanding of evidence-based instructional practices in reading and mathematics for elementary learners
- Ability to differentiate instruction, manage classroom behavior, and support diverse academic and developmental needs
- Strong collaboration, communication, and data analysis skills with a commitment to inclusive education and student growth
Preferred Qualifications: K-5 Early Literacy Endorsement
Salary: Based upon experience and qualifications
