About the Role
Kamaile Academy PCS is seeking a dedicated and skilled Pre-Kindergarten Teacher to provide high-quality instruction while supporting students’ guidance, discipline, welfare, and safety. This role emphasizes early childhood development, effective teaching, student engagement, and collaboration with colleagues and support staff.
Major Duties
- Develop individualized student success plans using assessments and data to track knowledge, skills, and progress.
- Demonstrate empathy, build rapport, actively listen, and maintain objectivity with young learners.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to meet student academic and social-emotional needs.
- Plan lessons regularly using professional practices, including clear objectives, assessments, and re-teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate grading and evaluations, and communicate student progress to families.
- Participate in faculty, grade-level, and department meetings; support school initiatives such as planning, budgeting, implementation, and program evaluation.
- Follow school policies, approved curriculum, and positively promote the school’s vision.
- Monitor student challenges and risks (e.g., bullying, harassment, mental health concerns) and report issues promptly.
- Support compliance with IEPs and 504 accommodations.
- Create and maintain a professional growth plan, reviewing goals and progress annually with administrators.
Minimum Qualifications
- Holds appropriate teaching certification.
- Completed a teacher preparation program at an accredited college or university.
- Meets “Highly Qualified” (HQ) criteria, including relevant Praxis exams.
- Completed student teaching, internship, or prior teaching experience.
- Strong content knowledge for early childhood education and development.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
- Ability to maintain appropriate student behavior and classroom management.
- Skilled in assessment, instruction, and evaluation strategies.
- Knowledge of child development and early learning practices.
- Ability to support diverse learners and implement culturally responsive teaching.
- Proficient in using technology to support instruction and engagement.
- Committed to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
- Dependable in attendance, punctuality, and task completion.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching preschool and/or Pre-Kindergarten.
- Experience working with students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Hawaiian culture.
- Skilled in collaborative lesson planning and classroom management.
Compensation
Placement is based on education and experience.
