Job Description:
The Operations Manager will manage the operational aspects of chemical distribution including work activities associated activities that occur off site at vendors, terminals and customer locations.
This person is responsible for safety, health and environmental performance of the branch as well as compliance to government regulations including EPA, OSHA, DOT and local agencies. The Operations Manager will drive continuous improvement to realize gains in safety, efficiency, productivity and cost control while enabling business growth and ensuring excellent customer service.
This position is full-time on site at the Northstar Chemical branch located in Modesto, CA.
Key responsibilities include:
Leadership:
· Lead, manage and develop a team consisting of the Assistant Operations Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Customer Service team, Dispatcher, Material Handlers (chemical operations), Maintenance Technicians and Drivers.
· Use a hands-on approach to grow a high-performing team with a culture of collaboration through education, training, coaching, and teamwork.
· Communicate with employees to ensure understanding of goals, expectations and performance criteria. Encourage active participation to promote team work, job satisfaction and pride of ownership.
· Collaborate effectively with other Northstar teams outside of the branch including sales, supply chain, finance, HR and quality systems using open communication, responsiveness, bias for action (follow through) and problem solving with a focus on standardization and work process.
· Cultivate strong customer relationships through building trust, providing great service, excellent communication and effective problem solving by implementing work processes to deliver sustainable results.
· Implement effective performance management of personnel including compliance with company policies and procedures, routine documented performance reviews, development plans and identifying and executing performance improvement plans as necessary.
Safety and Compliance: Responsible for safety behaviors and safety performance of the branch. Must have a routine daily presence in the operational areas to drive good behaviors, coach, interact and support employees. Ensure all company policies and regulatory requirements are followed, including compliance with operating permits and EPA, OSHA and DOT regulations.
Operations Management:
· Oversee operations including chemical handling, warehouse activities, maintenance, customer service, logistics and quality control.
· Manage the customer service and logistics function, including order processing, purchasing, dispatch, contract carrier assignment and customer invoicing.
· Collaborate with the Sales Team to establish new customer accounts and provide outstanding customer service.
The ideal candidate will have:
· Experience: 8+ years of progressive manufacturing or chemical processing leadership experience. Strong leadership skills and experience in direct supervision of hourly employees.
· Bachelors Degree in a science based discipline, preferably engineering, chemistry or environmental preferred.
· Minimum 3 years experience in chemical operations, preferably in chemical distribution of HazMat products.
· Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Basic knowledge of DOT requirements for HazMat transport and OSHA regulations.
· Exceptional time management skills, ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
· Good Computer skills’ including proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using a business enterprise system.
· Willing to work long hours occasionally as required from business needs and be responsive for after hours/weekends/on call as necessary.
· High School Diploma/GED required.
· US Citizenship required.
Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
