Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and observation of mental and physical health status
- Develop, implement, and review individualized care plans tailored to the needs of correctional patients, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations
- Monitor patient conditions continuously, utilizing advanced knowledge of physiology, anatomy, microbiology, and epidemiology to identify early signs of illness or injury
- Manage medical records with precision, ensuring documentation review aligns with HIPAA guidelines and supports accurate data collection for ongoing care
- Administer medications and treatments following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols while maintaining patient safety at all times
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care delivery, including infectious disease management and acute care interventions in high-pressure environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or Level II trauma centers when applicable
- Educate patients on health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment plans while adhering to OSHA standards for workplace safety and infection prevention
Skills
- Proven experience in critical care settings, hospital environments, assisted living facilities or medical-surgical units with a strong foundation in acute care practices
- Expertise in managing infectious diseases and implementing infection control measures within correctional health settings
- Knowledge of public health principles, epidemiology, and medical terminology relevant to inmate healthcare management
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to oversee patient observation processes and guide less experienced staff effectively
- Proficiency in data management systems for medical records, MDS (Minimum Data Set) assessments, and documentation review processes
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations related to workplace safety and infection prevention protocols
- Excellent communication skills for clear documentation review, patient monitoring reports, and interdisciplinary collaboration
