We’re looking for a skilled Alterations Seamstress/Tailor to join our growing team and help ensure every suit leaves our shop looking flawless.
Position Overview
This is a flexible part time in person role, we are seeking an experienced alterations professional who can tailor ready made suits and custom made garments with precision. This role focuses on adjusting fit, hemming, tapering, and performing detailed suit alterations—along with completing dress alterations, replacing buttons or zippers, repairing holes or tears, and handling general garment fixes that customers bring in.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform expert alterations on ready made and custom made suits, jackets, pants, vests, and shirts
- Hem pants, take in/let out waist and seat, taper legs, shorten/lengthen sleeves, adjust shoulders when needed
- Pin and fit clients accurately during fittings
- Maintain high-quality standards for all alterations
- Complete alterations in a timely manner and meet deadlines
- Press, steam, and finish altered garments for pickup
- Communicate professionally with clients and team members
Qualifications
- 2+ years of alterations or tailoring experience
- Strong understanding of suit construction and fit adjustments
- Skilled in using industrial sewing machines, sergers, and hand-sewing techniques
- Ability to take accurate measurements
- Excellent attention to detail
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage workload effectively
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Must be located in the Pittsburgh area or able to reliably commute to our location.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience altering men’s suiting specifically
- Knowledge of jacket construction and advanced tailoring techniques
- Ability to complete rush alterations when needed
