The Role
This role replaces what the industry calls a leasing agent and community manager. Most property management jobs split the work in two. One person chases the lease. Another pushes the paperwork. Neither one owns the resident. We built this role differently.
A Resident Host owns the relationship. From the first tour through move-in, daily life, and the renewal conversation, you are the person a resident knows by name and trusts to follow through. There is no onsite manager here. Resident Hosts are a team of peers who carry the Compass Standard together and hold each other to it.
If you have a hospitality-first instinct and you would rather build trust than close a sale, keep reading.
Who We Are
Compass Communities is a hospitality-forward multifamily company. We hold ourselves to the service level of the best names in the business. Our mission is simple: impact as many lives as possible for good. We do that one resident, one interaction, one kept promise at a time.
What You Will Own
- Greet and host every future resident through The Compass Difference tour, from the first hello to a meaningful close.
- Answer inquiries warmly within two hours during business hours, and log every tour and visit the same day.
- Carry the resident relationship across the full lifecycle, from first tour through move-in, daily life, and the renewal conversation.
- Spend real time out in the community each day, connecting with residents where they live and catching anything that needs care.
- Own and approve the notices our centralized Resident Ops team prepares, because you hold the relationship context.
- Log every conversation, concern, and encounter so any teammate can pick up the thread and the resident feels one seamless relationship.
- Plan and host resident events and givebacks that turn neighbors into a community.
The Daily Rhythm
The Community Office is open to residents and future residents from 8:00am to 7:00pm every weekday, held by two staggered shifts. An Opening Host works 7:30am to 4:00pm. A Closing Host works 10:30am to 7:00pm. During the overlap, one Host holds the office while the other is out in the community.
Some Saturdays are part of the rhythm, and they come with a bonus.
What We Look For
- Genuine warmth and a hospitality-first instinct. Prior multifamily experience is not required.
- Strong relationship and communication skills, in person and in writing.
- Reliability, follow-through, and the discipline to care about the things no one is watching.
- A peer mindset. You can hold a standard, and hold a teammate to it, without a manager standing over you.
How This Role Is Different
The industry runs operations from behind a desk, where the inbox feels like the work. We are present out in the community and do everything from an iPad that does not strictly require the desk.
What Success Looks Like
We measure success by accuracy and warmth together, against our Three Keys of Service: No Defects, Timeliness, and Kindness. Every fact you state is verifiable. Every commitment is one we can keep. And the fortieth interaction of your week carries the same warmth as the first.
