We are seeking a Scrap Processor to join our team. This full-time position involves receiving, processing, tracking, and shipping various types of scrap materials while maintaining efficient operations. The ideal candidate will have experience with material handling equipment and the ability to distinguish between scrap and usable electrical equipment that can be refurbished.
Key Responsibilities
Scrap Receiving and Processing
- Receive incoming scrap materials.
- Identify and categorize different types of scrap materials.
- Log all incoming scrap materials accurately.
- Stage scrap materials appropriately with proper labeling and container information.
Material Breakdown and Processing
- Break down scrap items including: chillers and AC unites, UPS systems, electrical scrap components, miscellaneous equipment.
- Grade and sort non-ferrous metals according to industry standards.
- Determine what materials should be scrapped versus retained as usable electrical equipment.
- Record accurate weights for all processed scrap materials.
Shipping and Documentation
- Prepare scrap materials for shipment.
- Create accurate packing lists for outgoing shipments.
- Properly log records of all shipped materials.
- Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and company procedures.
Experience and Certifications
- Forklift certification
- Mobile ramp operation experience
- Proficiency with hand tools and basic maintenance equipment
- Previous experience in scrap processing or recycling is a plus
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of non-ferrous metal grading and identification
- Basic understanding of electrical equipment and components
- Physical ability to handle heavy materials, machinery, and equipment
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials in excess of 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods
