Position Summary
North Side Community School is seeking a substitute certified, long term substitute with special education experience to begin the school year working with our middle school special education students until full-time special education teacher can be identified.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Individualized Learning
- Assess & Plan: The special education teacher will evaluate students’ skills to design, implement, and track Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Adapt Instruction: The special education teacher will tailor learning materials and use data from formal/informal assessments to meet individual academic and social needs.
- Engaging Teaching: The special education teacher will utilize creative, engaging activities (e.g., arts, drama) to teach core skills and prepare students for grade transition.
Classroom Culture & Behavior Management
- Culture Building: The special education teacher will foster a positive, structured, and respectful classroom environment centered on hard work, creativity, and collaboration.
- Behavioral Support: The special education teacher will develop positive behavior plans, monitor behavioral patterns, and implement interventions or crisis management when needed.
Collaboration & Community
- Holistic Teamwork: The special education teacher will partner with support staff (social workers, speech therapists) and coach fellow professionals to create comprehensive intervention plans.
- Family Engagement: The special education teacher will maintain open, proactive communication with parents regarding student progress and potential challenges.
- School Stewardship: The special education teacher will actively participate in school community events, professional development, and team meetings to uphold the school’s mission.

- High Standards: The special education teacher will maintain strong professionalism, meet all deadlines, and adapt to additional duties as assigned by leadership.

- Flexible Instruction: Expertly delivers whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one instruction using diverse strategies tailored to unique learners.
- Data-Driven Planning: Analyzes student data to build both short-term and long-term differentiated lesson plans.
- Collaborative Mindset: Partners effectively within grade-level and school-wide teams, and maintains regular, proactive communication with families.
- Classroom Management: Utilizes a variety of management strategies to keep the classroom running smoothly, while actively cultivating a growth mindset.
Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A)
Certification: Missouri state substitute certification (special education certification preferred).
