The Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing banquet functions and ensuring that all events are executed to the highest standards. This role involves mapping out events with the banquet staff and collaborating with the Banquet Manager to develop a proper plan of execution. It is imperative for the Banquet Captain to stay informed and actively participate in the entire banquet execution process.
Primary Job Duties:
1. Supervise and Train Staff:
o Supervise and train banquet servers and bartenders, providing guidance on all daily banquet operations.
o Correct staff as needed to ensure proper service techniques are followed.
2. Communication:
o Thoroughly communicate function information with your team of servers to ensure everyone is informed and prepared.
o Maintain effective communication with Event Management, members, guests, the Banquet Chef, and Front of House Management/Supervisor teams regarding all banquet needs.
3. Team Development:
o Assist in the development of Lead Banquet Servers and Banquet Servers, fostering their growth within the team.
4. BEO Management:
o Understand how to read and execute a Banquet Event Order (BEO) form, ensuring all details are accurately implemented.
o Make sure all meeting rooms are set according to BEOs and maintain cleanliness and organization at all times.
5. Daily Reporting:
o Conduct a daily recap of all banquet information regarding revenue, staffing, issues/concerns, weather, and the number of covers, submitting this report at the end of each shift to the executive office and Director of Food & Beverage.
6. Inspection and Maintenance:
o Perform daily inspections of banquet hallways, meeting rooms, storerooms, and public areas to ensure they are organized and clean.
o Address any issues related to organization and cleanliness proactively.
7. Meeting Participation:
o Attend BEO meetings to stay updated on event details, changes, and any special requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a banquet or catering role, with supervisory responsibilities preferred.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams and guests.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, ensuring all aspects of service meet company standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing between 25 to 50 pounds.
- Capability to push or pull carts or furniture, potentially weighing between 50 to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Team assistance is expected for handling larger items.
