Summary: Cleans teeth and examines oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. Educates patients on oral hygiene, takes digital radiographs, applies fluoride by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Be present at morning huddles.
- Treats all patients and co-workers with respect.
- Adheres to all practice safety rules.
- Adheres to all practice safety rules and OSHA Hazard Communication Standards and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standards and HIPAA regulations.*
- Cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums using dental instruments.*
- Records and reviews patient dental histories.*
- Examines mouth, teeth, gums, or related facial structures using probes to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.*
- Feels and visually examines gums for sores and signs of diseases.*
- Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.*
- Exposes and takes digital x-rays and inter-oral photos.*
- Performs secondary intra and extra-oral cancer screening.*
- Provides clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients or the general public.*
- Applies fluorides or other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.*
- Administers local anesthetic agents.*
- Maintains dental equipment and sharpens and sterilizes dental instruments.*
- Removes excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.*
- Administers anesthetics or sedatives to control pain if licensed.*
- Proper toothbrush selection and brushing techniques, flossing and following a specific oral hygiene program for patient treatment.*
- Must be familiar with basic assistant protocols.*
- Operates diagnostic or therapeutic dental instruments or equipment.*
- Maintains patient recall system.*
- Sterilizes dental equipment or instruments.*
