Store General Manager
BA Artisan Bakehouse | Bellevue, WA
About BA
BA Artisan Bakehouse is built around naturally fermented bread, handcrafted pastries, specialty coffee, thoughtful service, and genuine hospitality.
Our Bellevue location is BA’s first store in the United States and an important foundation for future growth across North America. We are looking for a Store Manager who wants to build an outstanding store, develop people, strengthen the surrounding community, and grow with the company over the long term.
This is a hands-on leadership and store operations role with meaningful authority, responsibility, and opportunity for growth.
The Role
The primary responsibility of a BA Store Manager is to operate and continuously improve the overall business of the store.
The Store Manager is accountable for the store’s results, including sales, profitability, labor, inventory, waste, product availability, guest experience, team stability, employee development, cleanliness, quality, and operational efficiency.
Every responsibility described below serves one purpose: to make the store, the team, and the operation stronger than they would be without the Store Manager’s leadership.
You will have meaningful authority to organize the store, deploy the team, assign responsibilities, make operational decisions, and request the resources needed to improve performance. With that authority comes accountability for the results those decisions produce.
The Store Manager must also be someone the team can depend on. You are expected to remain calm under pressure, listen carefully, address employee concerns, resolve problems fairly, and provide the direction and support the team needs to succeed.
Key ResponsibilitiesStore Performance and Business Improvement
Lead the store toward consistent operational and financial improvement.
Responsibilities include:
- Sales performance and business growth
- Labor planning and scheduling
- Inventory, ordering, and product availability
- Waste and cost control
- Production coordination
- Customer retention
- Daily operational execution
- Reviewing performance and identifying trends, gaps, and root causes
- Turning observations into clear plans, assigned actions, and measurable results
The Store Manager should understand what is happening in the business, why it is happening, and what needs to happen next.
Guest Experience and Community
Create a store where guests feel welcomed, cared for, and remembered.
Responsibilities include:
- Setting and maintaining BA’s hospitality standards
- Building relationships with regular guests
- Coaching employees to create meaningful guest interactions
- Ensuring the team can confidently introduce BA’s products and story
- Handling complaints and service recovery with maturity and care
- Strengthening BA’s relationship with the Bellevue community
- Maintaining a warm, professional, and consistent guest environment
The Store Manager should be a visible and trusted presence who notices guest needs and ensures that service standards remain strong throughout the day.
Team Leadership and Development
Build a dependable team that performs consistently and continues to grow.
Responsibilities include:
- Hiring and onboarding
- Establishing clear role expectations
- Assigning responsibilities based on each employee’s strengths and development needs
- Training and coaching both new and existing employees
- Maintaining clear development goals for each team member
- Identifying and developing future trainers, Shift Leads, and managers
- Providing direct, respectful, and timely feedback
- Addressing performance concerns fairly and consistently
- Building a healthy, accountable, and supportive team culture
Every employee should have a current area of development. The Store Manager is responsible for ensuring that training is intentional, progress is followed up on, and the people around them become stronger over time.
Employees should know they can rely on the Store Manager for direction, support, honest feedback, and help resolving difficult situations.
Planning and Floor Leadership
Prepare the operation before each shift and maintain awareness of the entire store throughout the day.
Responsibilities include:
- Setting daily sales, service, operational, and training priorities
- Assigning primary roles, supportive roles, and individual areas of responsibility
- Preparing staffing and break plans
- Communicating clear expectations before the shift begins
- Monitoring guest flow, employee performance, and operational conditions
- Redeploying employees as business needs change
- Coordinating front-of-house and back-of-house priorities
- Supporting critical stations during busy periods without losing awareness of the full operation
- Completing clear handoffs and shift recaps
The Store Manager must be willing to work alongside the team while remaining focused on leading, observing, coordinating, and improving the entire operation.
Store Operations and Standards
Maintain high standards across every part of the store.
Responsibilities include:
- Food safety
- Cleanliness and sanitation
- Product quality and presentation
- Opening and closing standards
- Equipment care and maintenance
- Workflow improvement
- Compliance with company procedures
- Coordination between front of house and back of house
A BA Store Manager notices problems early, responds with urgency, and follows through until they are resolved.
Strong managers do not repeatedly solve the same problems. They build clear systems, standards, responsibilities, and follow-up processes that prevent recurring issues and reduce the need for constant supervision.
Communication and Reporting
Serve as the primary operational connection between the store and BA US Management.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting important issues early
- Providing accurate and useful store updates
- Reviewing sales, labor, waste, staffing, service, and operational performance
- Communicating employee concerns and development needs
- Tracking assigned projects and commitments
- Confirming what has been completed, what remains open, and what support is needed
- Providing practical recommendations and next steps
We expect managers to communicate facts clearly, take responsibility, and actively follow work through to completion.
Problems should not be hidden, delayed, or allowed to disappear without resolution.
How a BA Store Manager Leads
A BA Store Manager:
- Leads through actions, not only authority
- Treats the store as something entrusted to them, not simply assigned to them
- Is dependable during both routine and difficult periods
- Creates stability when the team is under pressure
- Remains emotionally steady and professional
- Builds trust through honesty, consistency, and follow-through
- Supports employees without lowering standards
- Gives clear direction without humiliating or intimidating people
- Knows when to step in, when to delegate, and when to coach
- Takes initiative without waiting for repeated reminders
- Accepts direct feedback and adjusts quickly
- Is willing to learn BA’s operating model from the ground up
- Respects the knowledge of experienced team members
- Identifies problems before they become larger or more visible
- Takes responsible care of company money, inventory, equipment, and information
- Accepts accountability for the store’s results
Leadership at BA is earned through reliability, character, sound judgment, and consistent action.
What We Value
At BA, character comes before resume.
Relevant management experience is valuable, but integrity, reliability, humility, learning ability, ownership, and execution are stronger indicators of long-term success than an impressive title alone.
We place significant value on:
- Integrity and sound judgment
- Reliability and long-term commitment
- Genuine hospitality
- Emotional maturity
- Humility and willingness to learn
- Strong execution and follow-through
- Willingness to accept responsibility
- Ability to develop and care for people
- Genuine interest in BA’s products, standards, and future
- Ability to treat the store’s success as a personal professional responsibility
We are looking for someone who wants to help build and operate an excellent store, not simply hold a management title.
Qualifications
- Leadership, supervisory, or progressively responsible experience in hospitality, food service, retail, café, bakery, or restaurant operations
- Strong communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
- Strong organization, planning, and follow-through
- Experience training, coaching, or developing employees
- Ability to delegate clearly and hold people accountable fairly
- Experience with scheduling, labor planning, inventory, ordering, or daily operations
- Ability to review business performance and identify practical improvements
- Ability to summarize observations, create plans, and drive execution
- Willingness to work directly with guests and alongside the team
- Willingness to learn BA’s products, systems, culture, and operating standards
- Genuine interest in hospitality and community building
Formal management titles are helpful, but candidates who can demonstrate leadership, accountability, reliability, learning ability, and strong execution will also be considered.
Compensation and Development
Compensation range: $55,000 to $85,000+ annually
Compensation is based on relevant experience, demonstrated leadership ability, assigned responsibilities, and stage of development.
The Store Manager position includes a structured development period.
New leaders begin by learning BA’s products, culture, service standards, team, and operating systems. Responsibilities, authority, and accountability are gradually expanded based on demonstrated performance, team trust, operational results, learning progress, consistency, and readiness to take on broader responsibility.
Because Bellevue is BA’s flagship United States location, BA invests significant time in coaching, feedback, training, and long-term development.
Fully developed Store Managers may have opportunities to support future locations, develop new management teams, contribute to operating systems and standards, and move into broader multi-unit or regional leadership roles as BA expands across North America.
Why Join BA

You will have the opportunity to:
- Lead and develop a growing team
- Improve real store systems and business results
- Influence the guest experience
- Build meaningful community relationships
- Help establish BA’s United States operating standards
