Responsibilities
- Review medical documentation and verify insurance coverage to initiate prior authorization requests
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to gather necessary clinical information and supporting documentation
- Utilize electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical coding tools, including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding, to prepare accurate authorization submissions
- Communicate effectively with managed care organizations and insurance carriers to track authorization statuses and resolve any issues
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies when handling sensitive patient information
- Follow up on pending authorizations regularly, ensuring prompt responses and approvals for scheduled procedures or treatments
- Document all interactions, updates, and outcomes meticulously within medical records and electronic health records (EHR) management systems
Skills
- Strong understanding of health insurance policies, managed care processes, and insurance verification procedures
- Proficiency in medical terminology, medical billing, and medical coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10)
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards and clinical confidentiality policies
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with providers, patients, insurers, and team members
- Familiarity with medical office workflows, insurance prior authorization procedures, and health insurance policy nuances
- Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
