The Driver is responsible for safely transporting individuals with developmental disabilities to and from day programs, community activities, and other scheduled destinations. This role plays an important part in helping individuals stay engaged in their communities and access the services and supports they need, while reflecting the agency's commitment to safety, dignity, and person-centered care.
What You'll Do
- Safely pick up and drop off individuals at scheduled times and locations, including homes, day programs, medical appointments, and community outings.
- Assist individuals with entering and exiting the vehicle, including those who use mobility aids or require additional support.
- Follow all assigned routes and schedules, communicating promptly with the office regarding delays, schedule changes, or transportation issues.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning vehicle, including reporting any maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
- Complete required documentation, such as mileage logs, trip sheets, and incident reports.
- Follow all applicable safety protocols, including the use of seatbelts, wheelchair securements, and child/adult safety restraints as needed.
- Treat all individuals with patience, respect, and professionalism, supporting their independence and comfort during transport.
- Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, and agency staff regarding pickup/drop-off times and any individual-specific needs.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policy.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to any emergencies or behavioral incidents that may occur during transport.
What You'll Need
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Reliable transportation history; CDL or specialized license may be required depending on vehicle type.
- Ability to pass background checks, including criminal history and driving record checks, in accordance with DDA and agency requirements.
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred, but not required — training provided.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Punctuality and reliability are essential, given the role's direct impact on individuals' schedules and access to services.
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
