About IntelliBoard
IntelliBoard is a learning analytics and data warehouse platform used by community colleges and universities to turn data from Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, and student information systems into dashboards, reports, and early-alert insights for provosts, deans, faculty, and student success teams. We ingest institutional data through bulk API connectors and ETL pipelines, model it in a cloud-hosted warehouse, and deliver it through configurable, institution-branded dashboards and an AI-assisted reporting interface.
We're a focused, technical, distributed team. Everyone here touches the product, the data, and the customer.
The Role
You'll own the customer relationship from signature through go-live and beyond. You are the person who translates what a registrar, a dean of students, or an institutional research office actually needs into requirements engineering can build, and then makes sure it gets delivered, trained on, and adopted.
This is not a pure relationship or project-management seat. You need to be comfortable in a Linux shell, able to read an ETL job log, reason about how data moves from a source system into a warehouse, and hold your own in a conversation with our engineers about why a query is slow or a load failed.
Because this role is remote, we're looking for someone who is a strong asynchronous communicator, self-directed, and disciplined about documentation. If you need a manager in the next room to stay on track, this isn't the right fit.
What You'll Do
Implementation and delivery
- Lead custom implementations of our SaaS platform end to end: kickoff, data source discovery, requirements gathering, configuration, validation, training, and go-live
- Define and deliver the scope and technical plan for each custom implementation, including data integrations, custom reporting, and institution-specific configuration
- Manage client expectations on timelines and deliverables: set realistic dates with engineering, communicate them clearly, and hold the line when scope shifts
- Investigate data discrepancies and pipeline issues at a first-pass technical level before escalating
Requirements and documentation
- Translate client conversations into written Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) that engineering can build from
- Write well-formed Jira tickets for engineering, including reproduction steps, data samples, expected vs. actual behavior, and acceptance criteria
- Author change orders for in-flight scope expansions (you draft; leadership approves)
Client liaison and sign-off
- Act as the primary liaison between the client and our engineering team throughout the project
- Demo completed engineering work to clients over video, walk them through what was built and why, and secure formal sign-off on deliverables
- Serve as the voice of the customer to product and engineering, and the voice of the product back to the customer
Training
- Design and deliver live webcast training classes for customers, from administrator onboarding to dashboard walkthroughs for faculty and leadership
- Build reusable training materials, recordings, and documentation
Presales support
- Provide presales consulting on technical discovery calls: assess a prospect's data environment, integrations, and feasibility
- Help configure and deliver product demos tailored to the prospect's institution and data
- Write professional services statements of work (SOWs) for prospects, scoping implementation effort, timelines, and assumptions
- Contribute technical responses to RFPs and security questionnaires
What We're Looking For
Experience
5–12 years total, with early-career time (roughly 1–6 years) in a Big 4 or large consulting environment (Accenture, EY, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG) or a professional services group at a boutique consultancy or SaaS vendor. We value the process discipline, documentation habits, and client-communication training that environment builds.
- Track record delivering software implementations to enterprise or institutional customers
- Prior experience working effectively in a remote or distributed team
Technical
- A customer-facing technical architect mindset: you can whiteboard how a client's source systems, our integrations, the data warehouse, and the dashboards fit together, and explain it to both a CIO and an engineer
- General understanding of cloud-based SaaS architecture (hosted application tiers, databases, storage, networking) and the tradeoffs that affect implementation scope and timelines
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments; you don't need to administer servers, but you shouldn't be intimidated by a shell or a log file
- Understanding of ETL/ELT and data integration concepts: how data is extracted from source systems, transformed, loaded, and validated, and where those pipelines typically break
- Working SQL knowledge sufficient to sanity-check data, understand a report definition, and talk credibly about query performance with engineering
- Familiarity with REST APIs and integration patterns, including authentication and rate limiting, and how they shape what's feasible for a client
- Comfort with data warehouse and BI concepts (data models, incremental loads, data quality) at the level needed to scope work and set client expectations
Client and Communication
- Excellent written communication; your specs, change orders, and tickets will be read by both a university CIO and a backend engineer
- Confident presenter and trainer on video, able to explain data to non-technical audiences without condescension
- Comfortable managing scope, expectations, and the occasional difficult conversation
Nice to Have
- Higher education or edtech experience; familiarity with Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, D2L, Banner, PeopleSoft, or Colleague
- Experience with BI or analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar)
- Exposure to Docker, CI/CD, or infrastructure-as-code
- PMP, Scrum, or equivalent certification
Why This Role
- Direct ownership of customer outcomes at a company small enough that your work is visible
- Work alongside a technical leadership team that reads code and cares about data correctness
- Meaningful exposure to product, engineering, and presales, with a path toward leading a solutions or professional services function
Details
- Fully remote within the United States. Core availability expected during US business hours (Eastern through Pacific overlap).
- Competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with experience
- Occasional travel to customer campuses and periodic team gatherings (estimate 10–20%)
How to Apply
Submit a resume and a brief note describing an implementation you led, a technical problem you diagnosed along the way, and how you communicated it to the client. Generic cover letters will be skimmed; specific ones will be read.
