About the Role
We are seeking an entrepreneurial Business Development Manager to drive that growth. This person will expand and diversify our portfolio of wholesale and toll roasting customers throughout New England. The role is ideal for someone who understands the specialty coffee ecosystem, enjoys building long-term partnerships, and thrives in a small company environment where initiative is rewarded and results are recognized.
You will work closely with company leadership to identify growth opportunities, structure partnerships, and help position Red Barn as a trusted, best-in-class roasting partner.
Key Responsibilities
Relationship Management & Account Development
- Maintain and deepen relationships with Red Barn’s existing wholesale and toll roasting customer base
- Develop and manage new wholesale coffee accounts across New England
- Build long-term relationships with cafés, retailers, and coffee brands aligned with Red Barn’s values and quality standards
Business Growth & Partnerships
- Source and secure toll roasting partnerships with emerging coffee brands and established roasters seeking production capacity or operating cost reduction
- Expand distribution opportunities through strategic partnerships
- Collaborate with leadership on sales strategy, pricing, and growth initiatives
Pipeline Management & Reporting
- Maintain CRM discipline—track pipeline activity and report on performance metrics regularly
- Analyze sales performance and market trends to identify new opportunities
- Represent Red Barn at industry events, trade shows, and customer visits
Location
- Role is based at our roasting facility at 7 Walker Dr, Upton, MA
- Minimum 3 days per week at the warehouse; approximately 2 days per week visiting customers and prospective partners in the field
- Some regional travel expected
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of business development, wholesale sales, or account management experience, ideally in specialty coffee, food & beverage, or a closely related industry
- Proven ability to manage a sales pipeline, comfortable owning a revenue target and reporting against it
- Experience with CRM tools (HubSpot, or similar); disciplined about logging activity and tracking deals
- Strong communicator and relationship builder, comfortable with both proactive outreach and long-cycle consultative sales
- Self-starter who can work independently while staying closely aligned with a small leadership team
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
Preferred
- Existing relationships within the New England café, restaurant, or specialty food ecosystem
- Solid understanding of the specialty coffee supply chain, including wholesale dynamics and toll/contract roasting
- Experience in an entrepreneurial or small-business environment
- Familiarity with wholesale distribution channels and retail food & beverage buyers
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base Salary: up to $85,000 depending on experience
- Performance-Based Bonuses: Tied to new account acquisition and revenue growth
