Sea glass kayaking conducts business on the Hillsborough river in Tampa,FL. We are professional, challenging, engaging kayak tour service. Our goal is to provide an educational, safe, and exciting tour service to our guests.
We are looking for a qualified kayak Tour Guide to lead guests through the waters of the city of Tampa in a professional manner. Our experienced Tour Guide will be a creative self-starter as well as an individual who is passionate about his or her work. A strong work ethic and interpersonal skills are also important qualities for this position.
The kayak Tour Guide will be responsible for the following:
- Read weather/water conditions to ensure safe operations for the duration of the tour.
- Complete safety and equipment checklist prior to departure
- Arrive at launch location 15 min. prior to customer's arrival
- Assist with check-ins, paperwork, and transactions at the launch site as needed
- Provide paddler's safety and equipment instructions.
- Review tour path including channel crossings
- Manage up to 5 tandem kayaks grouping
- Knowledge of USCG and State of Florida water safety requirements, including how to contact in cases of emergencies.
- Perform water rescue, include righting tandem kayaks in deep water.
- Will lead groups of guests (up to 10 people) on an informative tour through the estuary system, highlighting information about Tampa in addition to local flora and fauna
- Help prepare for rental launches including lifting kayaks, assembling paddles and other supplies, assisting with life jackets, offering dry bags and phone holders
- Provide opportunities for video/pictures during tour.
- Cross promote customer feedback/pictures online to social media sites.
- Break down after tours and rentals, including cleaning kayaks and supplies, storing equipment, and filing information with managers
- Report to daily Manager on Duty
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be 21 years old
- Have CPR certification and ACA PSF training (can be obtained prior to start date)
- Must have at least 1 year of prior guide experience
- Able to stand from a sitting position
- Able to paddle continuously for up to 3 hours
- Basic knowledge of Florida’s ecosystems and wildlife
- Experience kayaking recreationally or professionally
- Comfortable with heavy lifting (up to 50lbs.) and working outdoors in Florida weather and heat
- Good communication and public speaking skills
- Prior customer service experience a plus!
- Works well in a team environment
- Organizational and time management skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
