American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and active TNCC certification.

Mixed ICU setting divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU across 39 beds
-
Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
-
Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma with a heavy trauma population
-
Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly with CABG/TAVR patients 24–48 hours post-op
-
Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3, based on acuity
-
Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps currently in use with a transition to Baxter Pumps anticipated
-
Omnicell medication dispensing system in use
-
12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
-
Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)

No on-call responsibilities

Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Active RN license — SD license or compact license valid in South Dakota required
-
Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)

Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience in other settings may be considered

Epic EMR experience required
-
Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
-
Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
-
Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
-
Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-care environment

Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
-
DOB and SSN required for consideration
-
Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
-
First-time travelers are not eligible; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
-
Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
-
Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
-
Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 RT coverage, and robust physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP
-
Phlebotomy support available for peripheral blood draws; ICU charge RNs place all midlines
-
May be expected to precept nursing students

No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)

RTO of up to 7 days may be approved, but the contract must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week assignment

Navy scrubs required
