POSITION PURPOSE
The Maintenance Technician I supports the Maintenance and Engineering Department by performing preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant processing equipment and facilities. This position plays a key role in minimizing downtime, supporting production goals, and maintaining compliance with company safety and environmental standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Perform routine maintenance and repair of processing equipment and facility systems, including but not limited to:
· Defrosting and maintaining freezers
· Lubrication of plant equipment
· Basic mechanical repairs and parts replacement
· Cleaning, painting, and general upkeep of maintenance tools and equipment
· Facility and construction repairs for plant sites, bunkhouses, and company-owned properties
Assist with monitoring and adjusting plant systems such as:
· Chlorination systems
· Water usage and distribution systems
· Equipment, performance and operational efficiency
· Respond promptly to maintenance issues during plant downtime to ensure timely restoration of operations.
· Accurately document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in accordance with company recordkeeping procedures.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment by:
· Following all company safety policies and procedures
· Using proper tools and protective equipment
· Reporting hazards, equipment deficiencies, and safety concerns immediately
· Support continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, efficiency, and cost control.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist higher-level technicians with advanced repairs and projects.
· Participate in preventative maintenance programs.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Technician II.
REQUIREMENTS:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· 1–3 years of experience in equipment repair, maintenance, or related field preferred.
· Ability to work extended hours (12+ hour shifts) in a fast-paced production environment.
· Physically capable of lifting, climbing, bending, and working in cold or wet environments typical of seafood processing facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
· Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
· Knowledge of training in areas such as refrigeration, hydraulics, plant operations, facilities maintenance, or construction is preferred.
· Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
· Strong work ethics with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
