Position: Assistant Dining Room Manager - 1862 by Martin Hamann
Reports to: Dining Room Manager - 1862 by Martin Hamann
Objective: Daily supervision of the dining room, events, staff and support and development of the food and beverage department.
Operations:
- Conducts daily pre-shift meetings with front and back of house. Ensures all staff adheres to the dress code and is prepared for service.
- Actively manages service on the floor, while building rapport with both staff and members. Shift management to include guest feedback and conflict resolution. Reports and resolves issues in a timely manner to Dining Room Manager.
- Maintains visible presence throughout the space, especially during service hours.
- Plans room set-up based upon anticipated flow. Has a strong management presence on the floor during service hours at dinner.
- Works with Dining Room manager on any issues with the physical plant of the dining room. Together gives Engineering lists and follows up on outstanding tasks.
- Drives consistent business to the dining room, especially in summer months.
- Assists in planning and implementing of procedures for special club events and banquet functions.
Member Service:
- Creates a welcoming ambiance and maintains proper standards in the front of the house.
- Responds to member emails and SevenRooms reservation requests within a 24 to 48-hour time frame on personal email and group email.
- Utilizes and embraces technology and various platforms to understand our members and guests. Systems we use include Office 365, SevenRooms (dining reservations), Control Panel (internal website), Pacesetter (member app), Jonas (club database), Qlik (web-based data analytics), Beverage Metrics (beverage inventory), ADP (payroll).
- Attends New Member Orientations and schedules staff orientations with Human Resources.
- Learns about relationship dining has to the other League House departments.
Willingness to adapt to Union League culture and to learn about other League companion amenities.

Administrative:
- Participates in monthly manager and dining meetings.
- Follows and enforces Employee Handbook policies and League House By-Laws.
- Understands and reviews sales and expense budgets (i.e.: revenue for food and beverage, labor percentages, operating expenses, etc.).
- Updates SevenRooms Shifts and Access rules. Maximizes features including Daily Programs
- Types, prints, and posts complete and accurate menus.
- Ability to update the wine list on Flipping Book and has the knowledge to update wine storage areas (i.e. Moravian Street storage, Cellar 62, a la carte wine fridges and wine wall in 1862).
- Reviews surveys and member feedback from our SevenRooms platform. Presents to staff and discusses useful feedback.
Staff:
- Reviews schedule of staff based on hours, member events and private events on property. Mindful of full-time expectations/requirements. Adjusts and informs when staff is approaching overtime.
- Develops rapport with teams outside food and beverage including Banquets, Front Desk, Engineering, HR, Membership, and Member Events.
- Hires and trains bussers, hosts, food runners, servers, and bartenders in keeping with Human Resources guidelines.
- Coaches and takes corrective actions with staff and members. Communicates actions to General Manager and Human Resources.
- Other duties to be assigned.
Desired skills, qualifications, and experience:
- 3 years of food and beverage experience, private club experience preferred
- Wine and beverage knowledge. Certified Sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers) a plus
Technical experience and aptitude with Jonas, Beverage Metrics, MS Office, and ADP

Requirements of Union League Staff:
- Work schedule will include nights, weekends, and holidays
- Mandatory dates: New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Fall Ball (1st Saturday in November), Thanksgiving Day, and Family Christmas (1st Sunday in December)
- Please note: Other Mandatory Dates may occur
