Position Summary
Kyle Conti Construction is seeking an experienced, dependable, and safety-driven Crane Operator to join our Heavy Civil Construction team. The Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment in support of heavy civil construction projects including transportation, bridge, marine, utility, environmental, and site development work.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of crane operations, demonstrate sound judgment during lifting activities, and maintain the highest commitment to safety, teamwork, and productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate hydraulic, lattice boom, crawler, rough terrain, truck-mounted, and all-terrain cranes safely and efficiently.
- Perform lifting operations in accordance with OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, manufacturer specifications, and company policies.
- Read and interpret lift plans, engineered lift plans, crane load charts, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Perform daily pre-operational inspections and complete required inspection documentation.
- Verify crane setup includes proper leveling, outrigger placement, counterweights, boom configuration, and operating radius.
- Monitor weather, wind speed, ground conditions, underground utilities, overhead power lines, and other site hazards before and during lifting operations.
- Coordinate lifting activities with qualified riggers, signal persons, superintendents, and field personnel.
- Report equipment defects immediately and assist with preventative maintenance.
- Maintain crane inspection logs and equipment maintenance records.
- Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and project planning meetings.
- Assist field crews with construction activities when crane operations are not required.
- Maintain equipment in clean and serviceable condition.
- Travel to project sites throughout New Jersey and surrounding areas.
- Work overtime, weekends, and night shifts as required by project schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of verifiable experience operating cranes in heavy civil construction.
- Current NCCCO Certification applicable to equipment being operated.
- Valid New Jersey Crane Operator License when required.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to pass background screening when required by project owners.
- Working knowledge of OSHA Subpart CC – Cranes and Derricks in Construction.
- Strong understanding of crane load charts, rigging principles, lift planning, and crane safety.
- Experience working around utilities, excavations, bridge construction, highways, marine work, and active construction sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with critical lifts and engineered lift plans.
- Experience on NJDOT, NJ Turnpike Authority, Port Authority, utility, railroad, or other public infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with GPS machine technology and modern crane operating systems.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- Signal Person and/or Rigger Certification.

What You'll Do

- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and occasional night shifts.
Preferred Experience
- NJDOT, NJ Turnpike Authority, Port Authority, utility, or public infrastructure projects.
- Critical lift experience.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Signal Person or Rigger Certification.

Work Environment
This position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and traveling to active construction sites throughout New Jersey. Candidates must be able to safely climb equipment, lift up to 50 pounds, and work around heavy equipment and active construction operations.
