Job Description
The Lead Certified CMMC Assessor (Lead CCA) serves as the primary authority and accountable lead for CMMC assessments conducted by a C3PAO. The Lead CCA oversees assessment planning, execution, assessor coordination, quality assurance, and final assessment determinations. This role ensures assessments are conducted consistently, ethically, and in compliance with Cyber AB and DoD requirements.
Assessment Leadership & Oversight
Serve as the Lead Assessor for CMMC assessments across applicable levels.
Plan, coordinate, and manage assessment activities from kickoff through closeout.
Assign and supervise CCAs and CCPs during assessments.
Ensure consistent application of the CMMC Assessment Process (CAP).
Assessment Decision Authority
Review and validate assessor findings and evidence determinations.
Resolve discrepancies, edge cases, and interpretation questions.
Make final recommendations regarding CMMC certification outcomes.
Ensure assessment conclusions are defensible, traceable, and compliant.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as primary assessment point of contact for client leadership.
Lead assessment briefings, status updates, and closeout discussions.
Manage scope, assessment boundaries, and assessment expectations.
Quality Assurance & Governance
Ensure assessments meet Cyber AB quality standards and audit readiness.
Participate in internal QA reviews and assessor mentoring.
Support continuous improvement of assessment processes and templates.
Ethics, Compliance & Risk Management
Enforce assessor independence and conflict-of-interest requirements.
Ensure proper handling and protection of CUI and sensitive data.
Uphold Cyber AB Code of Professional Conduct at all times.

Required Skills
Active Certified CMMC Assessor (CCA) certification (Lead-qualified per Cyber AB requirements)
Good standing with Cyber AB and affiliated C3PAO
Experience
Demonstrated experience leading cybersecurity assessments or audits
Prior experience conducting CMMC assessments preferred
Strong understanding of: NIST SP 800-171
NIST SP 800-172
DoD acquisition and compliance environments
Leadership & Skills
Proven leadership and team coordination abilities
Strong professional judgment and decision-making skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to manage multiple assessments and deadlines concurrently
Authority & Accountability
Authorized to lead CMMC assessments on behalf of the C3PAO
Responsible for assessment integrity, outcomes, and documentation quality
Serves as escalation point for technical, procedural, and ethical issues
