Sandia Vista Psychiatric-Mental Health is an outpatient psychiatric clinic serving the Westside Albuquerque metro area and surrounding communities, providing comprehensive, evidence-based mental health care in a supportive and patient-centered setting. Our services include outpatient psychiatric medication management with individualized treatment planning and ongoing medication optimization, as well as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment option for individuals with treatment-resistant depression and other indicated conditions. Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) / Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Technician to join our outpatient psychiatry clinic. This full-time position combines traditional medical assistant responsibilities with opportunity for specialized duties related to the administration of TMS therapy.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, professional, and comfortable working with patients experiencing mental health conditions. This role requires strong clinical skills, excellent patient communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
The job also requires an individual with good therapeutic communication and boundaries with psychiatric patients.
This is an at-will position, meaning employment may be terminated by either the employee or employer at any time, with or without cause or notice, in accordance with applicable law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Medical Assistant Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs
- Review and document medical history, medications, and allergies
- Prepare patients for psychiatric evaluations and procedures
- Assist provider with clinical procedures as needed
- Administer and score standardized rating scales (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7)
- Process prescription refills and prior authorizations
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR
- Coordinate referrals, labs, and outside records
- Maintain exam rooms and clinical supplies
- Follow infection control and safety protocols
TMS Technician Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for TMS treatment sessions
- Operate TMS equipment in accordance with provider orders and clinic protocols
- Monitor patients during TMS sessions for safety and comfort
- Document treatment parameters and patient response
- Communicate patient progress or concerns to the provider
- Maintain and clean TMS equipment according to manufacturer and clinic guidelines
- Ensure proper scheduling and adherence to TMS treatment protocols
- Track TMS insurance authorizations
- Track session progress and schedule treatment sessions
Administrative and General Duties
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments
- Assist with patient intake and check-out processes
- Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA
- Participate in staff meetings and required trainings
- Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
- Current Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
- Experience in psychiatry or behavioral health preferred
- Experience with TMS therapy preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
- BLS/CPR certification required or willingness to obtain
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism and boundaries in a mental health setting
- Proficiency with electronic medical records
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced outpatient environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to assist patients in and out of treatment chairs
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Compensation and Benefits
$19.32 - $23.00 per hour
Compensation is commensurate with experience. Benefits available for full-time employees include paid time off, paid federal holidays, and other clinic-sponsored benefits.
- We will train and certify you as a TMS Technician. Preferred previous experience administering TMS.
