We are seeking a passionate and dedicated ASL-Speaking Direct Support Professional (DSP) to empower individuals with developmental and cognitive disabilities through personalized care and support. Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders, through engaging activities and personalized assistance.
- Utilize ASL fluency to facilitate effective communication, ensuring clients’ needs are understood and addressed promptly.
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as grooming, dressing, eating, and mobility to promote independence.
- Support clients in community outings and home environments while ensuring safety through personal transportation assistance and supervision.
- Implement behavior management strategies tailored to individual needs to foster positive behaviors and emotional well-being.
- Administer medication, perform basic first aid or CPR when necessary, and follow safety protocols diligently.
- Maintain detailed documentation of client progress, incidents, and care activities to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working with individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, or neurodevelopmental disorders in settings such as special education or home & community care.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential for effective communication with clients.
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles, behavior management techniques, and supporting clients with cognitive disabilities.
- Ability to operate a standard passenger car safely for personal transportation assistance during outings or appointments.
- Strong caregiving skills with a focus on assisting with ADLs and promoting client independence.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction, team collaboration, and documentation purposes.
- Reliable personal transportation for client outings; flexibility to work various shifts including evenings or weekends as needed.
