Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator/Laborer is responsible for operating heavy equipment and performing general labor activities in support of Bass Environmental's environmental solutions, wastewater treatment operations, waste processing, beneficial reuse activities, industrial services, and facility operations. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence while supporting customer and facility needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, forklifts, and other assigned equipment.
- Perform general labor duties supporting environmental solutions, wastewater treatment, waste processing, industrial cleaning, and facility operations.
- Load, unload, transfer, and stage materials while maintaining clean and organized work areas.
- Conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Follow all OSHA, EPA, DOT, company safety policies, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Work effectively with team members, supervisors, customers, and contractors.
- Other duties as required
Hours: Typically Monday to Friday 10 hr shift and every other Sat from 6a to noon.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, excavators, etc
- Experience in wastewater treatment, waste processing, or similar industry preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor and industrial environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work around heavy equipment and industrial machinery.
- Strong commitment to safety, attendance, and teamwork.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus.
Physical Requirements
The employee must regularly:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop, and lift.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance.
- Enter and exit equipment safely throughout the workday.
- Wear required PPE including:
- Hard hats
- Safety glasses
- Steel-toe boots
- High-visibility apparel
- Gloves
- Respiratory protection when required
Work Environment
Work may be performed in:
- Wastewater treatment facilities
- Waste processing facilities
- Industrial customer locations
- Construction environments
- Outdoor work areas
- Confined spaces (when properly trained and authorized)
Employees may be exposed to:
- Noise
- Dust
- Mud
- Vibration
- Industrial equipment
- Chemicals and waste materials handled in accordance with applicable safety regulations
