Overnight ICU/ER Veterinary Technician
General Description
We are a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital seeking a self-motivated, dependable, and compassionate Overnight ICU/ER Veterinary Technician. Our overnight team provides emergency and critical care, so applicants must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and caring for hospitalized and critically ill patients.
The ideal candidate can think on their feet, work independently, communicate effectively, and remain calm during emergencies. This position requires overnight availability, including weekends and holidays based on the scheduled rotation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care to emergency and hospitalized patients
- Perform emergency triage and obtain complete patient vitals
- Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures
- Monitor, document, and report changes in hospitalized patients
- Draw blood and place IV catheters
- Perform diagnostics, including bloodwork, radiographs, blood pressure readings, and cystocentesis
- Prepare patients for surgery and assist with surgical procedures
- Monitor patients during anesthesia and recovery
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Communicate clearly with clients, technicians, and the veterinarian on duty
- Maintain accurate medical records and complete patient treatment notes
- Provide updates and assist with client phone calls
- Feed, walk, and provide routine care for hospitalized patients
- Prepare patients and their belongings for discharge
- Maintain treatment, ICU, pharmacy, laboratory, surgery, isolation, and radiology areas
- Clean cages, runs, exam rooms, treatment areas, and other hospital spaces
- Restock supplies and maintain hospital equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- At least one year of veterinary technician experience required
- Emergency or ICU experience strongly preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Strong communication, organization, and client-service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations
- Dependable attendance and reliable transportation
- Flexible overnight availability, including weekends and holidays
Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, reach, safely restrain animals, and lift or assist with moving patients and equipment.
