Purpose of Job
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the financial, technical and scientific oversight of the laboratories as appropriate. The Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for all laboratory functions in their assigned area including Off Site clinics as necessary. The Laboratory Supervisor works in collaboration with the laboratory and clinic management to evaluate staffing needs and competency for the laboratory staff. The Laboratory Supervisor is the CLIA Laboratory Director for their assigned laboratories as appropriate.
Job Functions

Provides direct supervision of the Laboratory. Supports the department director/manager through development of programs, goals and objectives consistent with those of the organizations overall strategic plan and initiatives.

Supervises staff resources by overseeing the recruiting, selecting, hiring and orienting qualified individuals. Evaluates staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective and timely manner. Assists in the development of core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional development. Contributes a cohesive team of Laboratory department committed to providing distributive, clinical and service quality to all customers.

Carries out functions with an awareness of operating expenses and key indicators within the budget for the Laboratory. Supports department director/manager in quality improvement efforts and service delivery that contributes to the overall success and financial viability of Laboratory.

Reviews and monitors applicable policies and procedures. As assigned, ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agency standards.

Proactively identifies and acts upon improvement projects and opportunities through observation, data analysis, engagement with partners, review of external impact factors and best practices, as well as ongoing communication with leadership and staff.

Responsible for oversight of the laboratory staff including directing work within the system and coordinating with clinic site managers on quality needs as appropriate.

Monitors quality assurance to improve laboratory processes including but not limited to: daily review of patient results; review and document quality control records; ensures instrument performance to include calibration, maintenance record review and troubleshooting and take remedial action as necessary; calculates productivity, quality assurance data and reports to clinic management.

Point of Care Testing: Competency assessment and testing oversight for non-Lab staff performing point of care testing at the given site as appropriate. This includes but not limited to staff collecting, processing, transporting or testing patient laboratory specimens. Work collaboratively with the Point of Care Coordinator for standardization of training and site needs.

Minimum Education/Work Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Technology (MT) with experience in clinic technical coordination of laboratory services

Experience in technical supervision of a laboratory testing department

Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry or equivalent per CLIA standards

Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions

Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

Ensures excellent service with a high degree of urgency to internal and external customers

Demonstrated computer aptitude to include ability to effectively utilize the Kronos system and Microsoft Suite
License/Certifications

Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology board of registry or equivalent per CLIA standards.
