Position Overview
Bell Foundry Christoph, www.bellfoundrychristoph.com / Tower Clocks USA, www.towerclocksusa.com, is seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Technician to support the design, installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of specialized control systems and electromechanical components to operate bells, clocks, glockenspiels, etc. that our company designs and installs. This position will serve as the technical leader for control system projects involving custom equipment, automation, electrical components, and field installations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with strong practical electrical knowledge, control system experience, and the ability to independently manage projects from initial setup through commissioning.
Located in historic Charleston, South Carolina the firm with its team of designers and craftsmen specialize in design and construction of bell / clock towers and old-world glockenspiels, (glockenspiels incorporate bells and clocks with animated characters, music and often narration to tell a story of an event, time, or place; they most often include cultural song and dance or representative figures of important historical people or occupations), tower clocks and post clocks, also known as street clocks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the configuration, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of control systems and electrical equipment
- Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, and control system issues in the field and shop environment
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
- Install and troubleshoot control panels, relays, sensors, switches, motors, and related components
- Perform system startups, testing, and customer training
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to other technicians
- Communicate with client regarding service calls, trouble shooting, programming desires and setup; assist with production scheduling and client communications
- Assist with continuous improvement of control systems, documentation, and installation procedures
- Travel periodically for installations and service projects
- Cross-train other employees on control systems; client programming, etc.
- Some familiarity with PLC systems a plus
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, electrical systems, or related field
- Strong understanding of electrical principles and troubleshooting techniques
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
- Experience with control system troubleshooting and programming
- Experience with control panels, instrumentation, sensors, and motor controls
- Ability to use electrical test equipment including multimeters and diagnostic tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and lead projects from start to finish
- Excellent communication skills with customers and internal teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with control systems, relay interfaces, or industrial automation.
- Familiarity with high and low-voltage control systems.
- Experience with motor controls, timing systems, or automated equipment.
- Knowledge of networking, communication protocols, or remote diagnostics.
- Background in electrical manufacturing, instrumentation, or industrial service.
- Experience with custom-built equipment or specialty systems.
Work Environment
This position combines office / shop-based work, electrical troubleshooting, fabrication support, and field installation. Candidates must be comfortable working with unique, custom-built systems and solving problems where every project may present new challenges. Much work also takes place high inside bell and clock towers. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, etc., is required.
Compensation Range
Estimated salary range:
$65,000 - $72,000 annually
